Rice prices see slight rise

The price of husked rice has increased by as much as VND700 per kilogram last week after months of decline, Tien Giang Food Company’s Director Nguyen Ngoc Nam said Sunday.

Five percent broken rice is now worth between VND6,000 and VND6,200 a kilogram.

Tien Giang Food Company bought 65,000 tons of rice last Friday to fulfill the first phase of a state-mandated rice-buying plan. All food firms are awaiting direction by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to purchase an additional 500,000 tons in the second phase of the scheme.
